Free Rice
The forum is pretty much as dead as the Python's parrot but I'm going to post this anyway.
Extend your vocabulary and end world hunger at http://www.freerice.com/.
I find it strangely addictive and I feel good for donating a full 2000 grains of rice.

Re: Free Rice
I've been on this a few times in the past and think I've got to about 1000, but then boredom kicked in, and I was fed up of googling each word.
It passed time anyway.

Re: Free Rice
I wasn't expecting a reply so yay. If I'd thought anyone would respond I would have posted something more interesting.
I enjoy it I love learning new words to use. I think the point is though if you don't know the answer it tells you what it means when you get it wrong and adjusts the level of difficulty accordingly.
Do you think we should send a mass email out to remind people about the forum or should we just let it die?
For now I've added some orc flavoured emoticons for my own enjoyment:

Yay! They're enjoyable.
I can see my 1 and a half week absence has killed the forum, so I shall pledge never to break my computer again.
Yes we need a funny email sent out to everyone......
and we need more Chris.

Re: Free Rice
Interesting idea this. Also makes me feel intelligent
One thing, though. I was reading the FAQ, and says this:
So presumably, they make the same amount of money regardless of whether you get the answer right. Which makes not donating it when your wrong just plain mean. But hey, they're indulging in a lot more benevolence than I am, so hush up Chris.

If FreeRice has the rice to give, why not give it all away right now?
FreeRice is not sitting on a pile of rice―you are earning it 20 grains at a time. Here is how it works. When you play the game, advertisements appear on the bottom of your screen. The money generated by these advertisements is then used to buy the rice. So by playing, you generate the money that pays for the rice donated to hungry people.

Re: Free Rice
Maybe the people who run the website keep it? If so this is a clever trick and we should try it. Imagine how much they would make due to the sheer difficulty of the words when you reach your vocab limit (very low for many people).
Re: Free Rice
They claim to be an non-profit organisation, though.
We, however, wouldn't be so silly, so yes - let's do it. You make the website, I'll prod my dictionary on random pages.
